This is my mixed-media collage ‘Treading Water” which was 1 of 3 glow-in-the-dark artworks that exhibited at the Kirschner Family Community Art Gallery in the Collective Threads showcase from August 10 until September 14, 2025.
This piece is came as a result of a long, dark winter coupled with working through some long-time repressed emotions and feelings. Channeling all that energy into this piece while listening to The Cure’s latest album, I was able to create something deeply layered and beautiful - just like life. It’s meant to showcase the strength we have to “suck it up” and keep moving, but also a comment on how bottling it up can lead to an over-all flood.
The original piece was made on a canvas with magazine clippings, shells, paint, foil, glitter, and glow-in-the-dark paint coming together in a bright, textured, and playful design. A high quality photo was then taken and lightly tweaked in Photoshop.
